What is Aide Mémoire?
Aide Mémoire is a secure personal information management app that allows you to store, encrypt, and share your personal data including contact information, financial details, and legal documents safely and securely. Your encrypted data can be kept on your phone, or passed to a loved one. They are unable to access your profile until you provide them with the password. Your data is password protected with military-grade encryption.
How much does this app cost?
If you want to store and access other people's profiles then Aide Mémoire is free. However if you want to create your own profile then Aide Mémoire uses a yearly subscription model. The subscription is managed by Apple and automatically renews unless cancelled (at least 24 hours before the end of the current period). You can manage your subscription and cancel at any time through your Apple ID settings.
What can I do without a subscription?
Without a subscription you can import, hold, and view (if you have the password) profiles that have been shared with you by others. You cannot edit or alter this information. This allows you to receive and securely store encrypted profiles from family members or friends.
What does the subscription get me?
With a yearly subscription, you can:
Create your own personal profile with unlimited storage;
Store all your personal information, financial details, and legal documents;
Share your encrypted profile with family members or friends;
Benefit from military-grade AES-256 encryption; &,
Access all features of the app without limitations.
How secure is my data?
Your data is protected with AES-256 encryption, the same standard used by the military, banks, and government agencies. All data is encrypted on your device before storage, and we use password-based key derivation (PBKDF2) to ensure maximum security.
Can I share my profile with family members?
Yes! You can securely share your encrypted profile with family members or friends using AirDrop or file sharing. They cannot access your data until you provide them with the profile password you set when setting up your profile. You do not need to do this straight away! The data can live, encrypted and protected, on their device, and they will be unable to access it until you provide them with the password. You may want to include it in your will, or pass it to a trusted third party who will pass it on when the time is right.
What happens if I forget my password?
Your password is not stored on your device. Therefore, we cannot recover your password if it is lost. This is by design to ensure maximum security. We recommend storing your password securely in a place that your loved ones will be able to access when the time comes; perhaps in a will, or alternative safe location.
Can I backup my data?
Yes, you can export your encrypted profile as .aide files and store them securely. Always keep your passwords safe when backing up.
How do I import a profile from someone else?
Tap the 'IMPORT PROFILE' button on the main screen, select the .aide file you received, and click 'Import Profile'. The profile will be added to your received profiles section.
Can I use the app on multiple devices?
Yes, you can use Aide Mémoire on multiple iOS devices. However, profiles are not automatically updated between devices. Changes made on one device will need to be exported and imported onto other devices. Your data stays encrypted throughout the process.
What file types can I import?
Aide Mémoire supports importing .aide files (encrypted profiles created by the app).
Is my data stored in the cloud?
No, your personal data is never stored in the cloud. All data remains encrypted on your device, and we don't have access to your personal information.
How do I delete a profile?
To delete a profile, go to the profile management screen and look for the delete option. Be careful as this action cannot be undone. Make sure you have a backup if needed.
Can I change my profile password?
Yes, you can change your profile password from the profile management screen. You'll need to enter your current password and then set a new one. Remember to update any shared copies of your profile.
